BROKEN HILL CITY AQUATIC CENTRE
The Broken Hill City Aquatic Centre provides high-quality aquatic and recreation facilities and programs. With a focus on family, healthy living, developing young people and those less fortunate, programs aim to create opportunities for individuals, families and the community to connect.
The Broken Hill City Aquatic Centre facilities include a 50 metre pool (Olympic sized, solar heated), 25 metres enclosed heated pool – disabled access, a toddler water play area and program pool (disabled access), an adventure water slide, multi-function meeting room, indoor hydrotherapy pool (disabled access), grassed areas with free barbecue and picnic tables, change rooms with amenities, separate disabled toilet/change room and kiosk.
There is also a park with play equipment opposite the pool.
BROKEN HILL NETBALL ASSOCIATION
The Broken Hill Netball Association provides high-quality netball facilities, competitions, and development programs. With a focus on family, healthy living and supporting programs that aim to create opportunities for individuals, families, and the wider community to connect, participate, and thrive.
The Broken Hill Netball Association facilities include multiple outdoor hard-surface courts with lighting for evening play, enclosed and shaded spectator areas, dedicated disabled-access courts and pathways, a modern clubhouse with meeting and function space, accessible change rooms and amenities including a separate disabled toilet and change facility, shaded grassed areas, barbecue facilities as well as a canteen/kiosk.
BROKEN HILL FOOTY CLUBS
The Broken Hill Footy Clubs provide quality Australian rules football competitions, coaching, and community programs. With a focus on family, healthy living, developing young people and those less fortunate, programs aim to create opportunities for individuals, families and the community to connect.
Broken Hill has three dedicated football ovals Jubilee Oval, Alma Oval and Memorial Oval. The main and newly upgraded facility is Jubilee Oval, featuring a premium grass playing surface, modern spectator stands and covered seating, floodlighting for night matches, dedicated player change rooms and amenities, separate disabled toilet/change room and accessible viewing areas, a function and meeting room, grassed viewing areas with barbecue facilities, and a kiosk/canteen.
THE BROKEN HILL SKATE PARK
The Broken Hill Skate Park is located at Sturt Park. It provides high-quality skate facilities for everyone to enjoy. With a focus on family, healthy living, and supporting people of all ages and abilities, it creates a great space for individuals and the community to connect.
The Broken Hill Skate Park facilities include a modern concrete street-style course, open flow bowl section, concrete pump track, dedicated beginner and junior area, shade structures and seating, smart lighting for evening use, CCTV security, accessible pathways and drinking fountain, suitable for skateboards, BMX and scooter riders of all ages and abilities.
BROKEN HILL REGINAL EVENT CENTER
The Broken Hill Regional Events Centre is a premier venue for racing, major gatherings and community events. It offers the largest open space structure in regional New South Wales, and hosts regular race meetings, public gatherings, shows and special functions throughout the year.
Facilities include a large multi-purpose pavilion seating over 800 people, three grandstands, multiple function rooms and bar areas, extensive shaded viewing spaces, comprehensive stabling and support facilities for race events, and fully accessible public amenities.
BROKEN HILL GOLF INC
Broken Hill Golf & Country Club features an 18-hole championship course set within striking outback landscapes. Panoramic views extend across the course.
Facilities include an 18-hole par-72 course, driving range, practice putting and chipping greens, practice bunker, clubhouse with function rooms, bar and restaurant, pro shop, golf cart and club hire, and accessible amenities.
BROKEN HILL CIVIC CENTRE
Broken Hill Civic Centre is the city’s premier performing arts, conference and function venue. It hosts a vibrant range of community events including concerts, comedy shows, dance productions, musical performances, orchestral concerts, awards ceremonies and hosts an annual debutante ball.
Facilities include a 700-seat auditorium with stage and orchestra pit, multiple function rooms accommodating up to 150 people, fully accessible amenities, and a commercial kitchen. Located in the heart of Broken Hill.
BROKEN HILL BASE HOSPITAL
Broken Hill Base Hospital has benefited from significant new upgrades, delivering modern, improved healthcare facilities for the local community. The major redevelopment includes a $12 million upgrade to the Emergency Department, completed December 2025, featuring an expanded layout, increased treatment capacity, and updated clinical infrastructure.
Upgraded facilities include a new main entrance, reception area, and triage space, larger waiting rooms, additional treatment bays, improved ambulance access and patient flow, modernised clinical and support areas, and new staff accommodation. The hospital also provides 24-hour emergency care, inpatient medical and surgical wards, maternity services, imaging and pathology, and specialist outpatient clinics.
PARKS AND PLAYGROUNDS
Broken Hill features nine major public parks and approximately 37 reserves and green spaces across the city. These well-maintained community spaces include shaded areas, lawns, picnic facilities, free barbecues, and children’s playground equipment, providing accessible outdoor recreation for residents and visitors
Key parks include Sturt Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, E.P. O’Neill Memorial Park, AJ Keast Park, Duff Street Park, Patton Park, Duke of Cornwall Park, and the Riddiford Arboretum.
Broken Hill also features dedicated off-leash dog parks are also available throughout the city, offering safe, enclosed areas for pets to exercise and socialise. Facilities include fully fenced spaces with separate zones for small and large dogs, agility equipment, drinking water, shade structures, poo bag dispensers, and accessible toilets. Open 24 hours, 7 days a week.
ZINC LAKES
Broken Hill and the surrounding region are home to a network of notable lakes and waterway sites. Located along the Silver City Highway, Zinc Lakes is a rare and refreshing oasis within the city. Constructed by the Zinc Corporation after World War II as a water reserve, the site was opened to the public in 1948 as a community recreation area.
Within the city limits also lies Imperial Lakes Nature Park, providing accessible green space and wildlife habitat close to town. Approximately 17 kilometres along the Barrier Highway sits Stephen’s Creek Reservoir, offering scenic views, picnic areas and walking trails. Further afield, roughly 110 kilometres east, the expansive Menindee Lakes system serving as the region’s primary water source and a spectacular destination for recreation and sightseeing.
THE LIVING DESERT & SCULPTURES
The Living Desert is located approximately nine kilometres north of Broken Hill along Nine Mile Road, the Living Desert State Park is a unique reserve blending art, culture and outback natural environment. Perched atop Sundown Hill stands twelve monumental sandstone sculptures, created in 1993 by international artists from 50-tonne sandstone blocks, offering sweeping panoramic views across the Barrier Ranges. Within the reserve lies the John Simons Flora & Fauna Sanctuary, a 180-hectare protected area enclosed by a predator-proof fence, featuring native vegetation, walking trails, interpretive signage, and abundant wildlife including wallaroos and red kangaroos. Facilities include picnic areas, walking trails, and lookout points.
SILVERTON
Silverton is a historic former silver-mining township located approximately 25 kilometres north-west of Broken Hill. Founded in the early 1880s after the discovery of rich silver deposits, the town once boasted a population of around 3,000 and predated the rise of Broken Hill. Today, it is a celebrated heritage and arts destination with wide dirt streets, 19th-century stone buildings, and sweeping outback scenery.
Silverton Hotel, the Silverton Gaol Museum housed in the 1889 prison, the Historic Daydream Mine offer underground tours, and the Mad Max 2 Museum. Nearby, Mundi Mundi Lookout delivers panoramic views across the vast Mundi Mundi Plains. Silverton remains a place of artistic inspiration, with galleries and studios occupying restored heritage buildings. Visitors can also enjoy a camel ride experience at Silverton Outback Camels, while Penrose Park provides free barbecues and tennis facilities.
LINE OF LOAD
Perched high above the city atop the historic ore body, the Line of Lode Miner’s Memorial honours those who lost their lives working Broken Hill’s mineral reef, with sweeping panoramic views across the city and outback plains.
Adjacent stands the Line of Lode Cafe, offering meals, refreshments and indoor–outdoor seating making the most of the elevated outlook. The site also features interpretive signage, the iconic Big Bench, rest areas and accessible amenities.

THE BIG BENCH
Housed at the Silver City Mint and Art Centre, this monumental panorama stretches 100 metres long and 12 metres high, depicting the Broken Hill landscape.
THE BIG ANT
Designed by artist Pro Hart and erected in 1980, this iconic steel sculpture stands beside the Tourist Information Centre, celebrating the region’s unique native wildlife.
THE BIG PICTURE
Located at the Line of Lode Miner’s Memorial, this oversized park bench is built to 2.5 times standard scale, offering sweeping views across the city.
