ABOUT MILTON

13 October 1950

Nowra born, Milton Hawke, has lived in Far West NSW for over 65 years. The local bus operator goes by the name Squimpy and is recognised in the FWSHF for his achievements in both Rope Quoits and Indoor Bowls. Squimpy first took to Rope Quoits at age 10 and started representing Broken Hill at age 17. From there, he moved onto the open competition, claiming his first title in 1984 where he defeated the 13-time Australian Champion, John Sproat, in four shots. Squimpy went on to win eight more National Titles before moving onto the Veterans Sections, where he claimed eight more.

Milton also competed in the teams events, claiming a total of 13 Australian Titles, skippering over 10 of those victories. Squimpy has been selected for the All Australian Team on 10 occasions and has been awarded 22 All Australian Awards which is awarded to a player who has excelled in the Australian Title event against all A-Grade participations. His awards and titles have collectively contributed to the crowning achievement of being inducted into the Australian Rope Quoits Hall of Fame as a player and administrator. Currently, Squimpy serves as the President of the Local Association as well as Handicapper.

Milton is inducted into the Far West Sporting Hall of Fame as both an Athlete and General member, recognising his achievements as both a competitor and administrator.

  • Competitor in the Australian Indoor Bowls Council Australian Championships since 2000. Winning 3 Gold medals and 2 Silver Medals.
  • Vice President of South Australian Indoor Bowls Association.
  • Chairman of Selector for the Australian Indoor Bias Bowls Council for the Trans-Tasman Trophy.
  • Australian Rope Quoits Hall of Fame.
