FAR WEST NSW LOCAL GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

The Broken Hill City Council and Central Darling Shire Council have introduced several measures to provide support for people in Far West NSW. These measure include:

BROKEN HILL CITY COUNCIL

    • Broken Hill City Council will make amendments to their Procurement Policy to allow for all purchases below $5,000 to be purchased directly from local suppliers, where practicable.
    • All purchases above $5,000 will be awarded to local suppliers if they are the most competitive in monetary terms and/or if they fall within 10% of the most competitive quotation.
    • Council has updated its Statement of Business terms to reduce payment terms from 30 days to seven (7) days, to allow timely payments to businesses.
    • Council has amended its Debt Recovery Policy to freeze all debt recovery action on unpaid rates.
    • Council has amended its Statement of Revenue to reduce the overdue interest rate on unpaid rates from 7.5% to 0%.

Library Services

    • Broken Hill City Library has a number of online resources and activities on it’s Digital Library.
    • Virtual storytime is also happening on their Facebook page for those children at home.
    • Library users can access these online activities for free.  If you are not a member, you can join as an online member for free.

CENTRAL DARLING SHIRE COUNCIL

Central Darling Shire Council will defer payments and waive interest for 3 months if ratepayers cite and provide evidence of hardship due to the COVID-19 or any other economic situation.

Wilcannia Post Office

The Wilcannia Post Office provides the following services:

    • Send and receive parcels
    • Banking balance enquires
    • Top up phone credit
    • Pay utility bills
    • Send and receive mail
